Conceptual Engineering ::

Critical to your project success is assessing the right concept and then giving it the right start. Once a feasible technical option is identified and approved for conceptual design, Umbarank Consult provides its clients with objective assistance at technology appraisal and selection phase that is optimized to meet the next gate review requirements.

Umbarank engineers prepare thorough set of development alternatives and conducts further assessment of process value, risk, and uncertainty. During this initial appraisal preliminary process engineering may be required to further refine cost and schedule deliverables, although these should be closely managed to expend funds only where value is added. The best development concepts are moved forward to the Select phase

Further study of multiple development options occurs in the Selection phase with the objective of identifying a single process concept for progression to the define phase and subsequent final detail process design package development.

Preparation of work deliverables require that a single viable concept be selected and further developed during this phase. Once a concept has been selected, the team will complete the level of detail necessary to develop a cost estimate and preliminary project schedule with a typical accuracy of –20% to +40%.  At this point Umbarank process engineers can carry out a conceptual design that includes:

  • Process Block Diagram
  • Process Flow Diagrams
  • Utility Flow Diagrams
  • Process Engineering Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Process Basis of Design
  • Process Simulations
  • Heat & Mass Balance
  • Flow Assurance (Steady State)
  • Equipment List
  • Equipment Sizing Report
  • Utility Load Summaries
  • Process Design Philosophy
  • Utilities Design Philosophy
  • Isolation Philosophy
  • ESD Philosophy
  • Process Control Philosophy
  • Sparing Philosophy
  • Operating Philosophy
  • Green House Gas (GHG) Emissions and Energy Efficiency (EE) Report

A very rough order of magnitude cost estimate can be provided as well.
